In 2019, BankVic was the founding partner of the Eastern Health Staff Development Scholarship Program. This year, we are proud to continue our support, which awards outstanding nurses with a financial scholarship to pursue further development through an accredited program of study in 2021.
The 2020 Eastern Health Staff Development Scholarship Program is available for Eastern Health employees. It aims to improve the care they provide to patients while also enhancing their capability to perform in their current role effectively, safely and efficiently.
Applications opened on Monday 28 September and close on Thursday 29 October 2020. Eastern Health employees can find out more on the Eastern Health staff hub.
The Eastern Health Staff Development Scholarship Program aligns with our aim to foster education and development opportunities, as part of our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.
We have a long-standing commitment of supporting our members to develop their careers and contribute towards the community through research and education grants. Other programs we have supported include the Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Nursing Development Scholarship with The Royal Children’s Hospital and the Western Health Allied Health Award.

The 2019 Eastern Health Staff Development Scholarship Program gave four Eastern Health employees the opportunity to further their education and obtain support for their research endeavours. Congratulations to all the recipients!
Lina Breik has worked with Eastern Health for four years and is an Intensive Care Unit Dietitian, while also studying a Master of Public Health at Monash University. The scholarship meant Lina could purchase equipment for studying at home during the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore continue her research in investigating micronutrient intake in critically ill patients at Box Hill Hospital.
Hayley Dell’Oro has over 10 years’ experience as a Speech Pathologist, with 5 years in Speech Pathology Clinical Education. The scholarship was used to partly subsidise the course fees for her Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education. The course is grounded in evidence-based and best practice research and will provide Hayley with strong and effective clinical leadership in Speech Pathology Clinical Education at Eastern Health.
Alison Khor used the scholarship to complete her Master of Clinical Pharmacy. Finishing her final subject involved performing and completing a research project within the Haematology and Cancer Services unit at Box Hill Hospital. Alison collaborated with medical and nursing staff to develop proforma chemotherapy charts (PCCs) to help improve the safety and timeliness of chemotherapy prescription for specific protocols for lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Sarah Osiurak started working at Eastern Health eight years ago as a graduate, progressing to her current role. Sarah used the scholarship to continue her studies in a Master of Healthcare Leadership. Through her studies Sarah has successfully obtained a promotion to Eastern Health Physiotherapy’s Grade 4 Clinical Decision Making and Innovation Lead.
